Design and Technology

Overview

At Witley C of E Infant School, we would like children to demonstrate:

  • Imaginative and creative ideas and the willingness to share them and prototypes they produce from their ideas.
  • A positive attitude to learning and independent working.
  • The ability to use time efficiently and work constructively and productively with others.
  • The ability to carry out research, show initiative and ask questions to develop knowledge of the users’ needs.
  • The ability to act as responsible designers and makers, using varied materials carefully and working safely.
  • A knowledge of which tools, equipment and materials to use to make their products.
  • The ability to apply mathematical knowledge.

Learning Objectives

In this subject the teacher will use four learning objectives for the children:

  • To master practical skills.
  • To design, make, evaluate and improve.
  • To take inspiration from design throughout history.
  • To understand and apply the principles of nutrition and to be taught how to cook.

Weaving

  • To join different materials by weaving.
  • To create a paper loom.
  • To look at craftspeople from around the world.
  • To use the ideas from artists and crafts people in my own work.
