The Friends of Witley School is a very active Parent-Teacher-Friends-Association and all parents are automatically members. FWS is all about supporting the school and is a great way of meeting other parents and their children.
FWS organise various events throughout the year including an annual Christmas fair, an annual Summer fair and barbeque, bedtime stories at our church, skate and scoot, mufti days, cake stalls and sponsored events for the children to name but a few.
These events bring the school community together and raise money for the school. The money is used to fund activities or buy equipment to benefit all pupils throughout their years at the school. Other events we organise are more ‘social’, bringing everyone together to form strong links between parents, teachers and the children.
The FWS meets monthly (every 1st Thursday) at the White Hart pub to discuss and plan forthcoming events, exchange new ideas, and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea in the process.

Over the years, FWS have raised much needed funds that help purchase additional resources that add to the enjoyment and development of all children whilst at Witley – as well as providing a legacy for future generations. This has included outdoor classroom, cycle/scooter pods, playground equipment, boat and activity areas, astro turf football pitch, outdoor stage, Library computer, Christmas gifts, nativity costumes, Y2 leaver’s trip to Legoland and much more.
We need your help!
The FWS team meet monthly to discuss and plan forthcoming events, exchange new ideas, and enjoy a glass of wine, mug of beer, or cup of tea in the process. We would love you to be involved in any way you can and there are various ways you can do this:
- Come along to FWS meetings
- We hold our AGM at the beginning of the Autumn Term and other meeting dates are posted on the school calendar – please come along, the more the merrier!
- Help out at events
- Many hands make light work – and we rely on your participation, whether running a stall at the Christmas Fair for an hour, baking a cake, wrapping gifts or helping to decorate the school Xmas tree… every little helps.
- Take part in the events and enjoy yourself
- Not only will you meet other parents, but especially for working parents it’s a great opportunity to get involved in school life.
As children move up to ‘big’ school we lose parents, and so we really do need fresh blood to keep FWS healthy – there is always plenty of room for new faces, new ideas and new energy.
Please look out for FWS notices on fundraising and social events via Parent Mail, bookbag flyers, school posters and via our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofWitleySchool

Below are some of the events that have been run successfully in the last couple of years:
Apple Pressing: a fun way for our children to experience the ‘tree to bottle journey’ for themselves by pressing donated apples and taking home a bottle of freshly pressed juice to enjoy and share with family.
Fireworks: Autumnal event for the children and their parents where friends and family are also welcome. Held at Chandler School , fireworks run by specialists, food and drinks provided by volunteer parents.
Christmas Fair: HUGE winter event for the children and their parents where friends and family are also welcome. Games, tombola and visit to Santa for children and fabulous Raffle, Bottle Tombola and adult stalls for the grown-ups. Food and drinks are provided by volunteer parents.
Christmas Mini Market: A magical event in the Witley Infant School calendar – where your child can browse gift stalls to buy their own Christmas presents. Token gifts donated by parents and each child brings along £2 to spend on between 2 – 4 gifts.
Northbrook Gift Wrap: parents buy high quality gift wrap and 22% of all revenues goes to the school. Look out for the information in your child’s book bag in autumn.
Christmas cards made by children: children make a card in school and parents buy a pack of 12 or more and of course some revenue goes to the school. Look out for your child’s artwork in their book bag in autumn.
2nd Hand School Uniform Sale: Parents buy, at really low price, donated uniform on display either in playground or resources room. Event generally happens once/twice a term during Open House afternoons and Parents Evenings. Price list available in office anytime.
Cake Sales: homemade cakes (NO NUTS please) baked by parents, grandparents or friends are donated to the school in the morning of the event and after school, children buy from the stall run by volunteer parents, in playground or resource room.
Skate, Scoot & Donuts: once a term children are allowed to scoot or skate on the playground after school where a track is organised by the school. Younger siblings may also have a go on a separate track by the AstroTurf area to try their new skills. Older siblings are too big now (and too fast!) to be invited, sorry!
Bedtime Stories: snuggle up in PJ’s with a favourite teddy and listen to stories read by volunteer parents at All Saints Church. Cookies and milk at half time!
Fruity Fridays: A local farm donates punnets of gorgeous summer fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries which are then available after school for Parents to buy – very reasonable prices. Be prepared to leave the playground with an empty punnet!
Summer Fair: Summer event similar to the Christmas Fair with more outdoor activities.
Phil the Bag: recycles your old and unwanted clothing and turns it into cash for the school. A great opportunity for a clear out!
Quiz Night: enjoyable, light-hearted general knowledge quiz evening, open to all Witley parents, teachers, friends and family. Supper included in the ticket, charity bar and prizes for the winning team!
Dad’s Cricket Match: Witley Infants Dads vs Hambledon Village Cricket team in July, with food and drinks provided by volunteer parents.
Parents Supper at All Saints Church: a fabulous end to the school year where Parents gather for a delicious dinner in a special setting.
